Are you ready for Spring? I am. Warmer weather and rain bring out the buds and blooms galore in the Smoky Mountains. Check out the tiny two-leaf plant I found along a trail. The force required for a small sprout to push through the dense layer of moss covering the rotten tree trunk is one of nature’s many wonders. Probably equivalent to us pressing our fingers through a thick concrete wall—yeah, sure, only if you’re a super hero. But sometimes extra strength and courage are needed in life if we want to live and grow. In many ways being different can lead to becoming better.
The Apostle Paul sent similar advice to his Romans friends. “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Romans 12:2) Sounds like the makings of a hero to me.
