Encounters of the Painful Kind

Most of my posts range from lighthearted trivia to visitor-friendly events and locations. Not today. On this Southern-Fried Friday, I’m providing a public service announcement for your outdoor benefit—one I painfully experienced on Labor Day. BE AWARE OF YELLOW JACKET AGGRESSIVENESS THIS TIME OF YEAR. By accident I wandered too close to a nest, and they weren’t hospitable. In other words, they labored on Labor Day and excelled at their work. Later I learned yellow jacket attacks are up this summer. Worse news followed by stating late summer and early fall are their most aggressive period because of dwindling food supply (insects). Did they mistake me for a giant insect? Let’s not go there, but please be careful where you go outdoors this month.

What outdoor creature has treated you to an unfriendly visit?
