Country Fair Time

Despite the current heat wave, think positive and plan for cooler weather in a few weeks. If you’re up for a road trip, attend the Blue Ribbon Country Fair on Saturday, September 30, from 10am to 5pm at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, Tennessee. As a way to promote and preserve Southern Appalachian culture, the country fair features every craft from blacksmithing to woodworking. Living history experts will demonstrate old-time traditions like spinning and weaving wool. Hands on experiences for children include a livestock exhibit and typical chores on a 19th century Cades Cove farm, like picking apples and gathering eggs. Admission is free to the public, but a $5 per car parking fee will be charged.
