Fall arrived at my house with no rain for five weeks and a heat index of one hundred degrees most days. This week began with a drastic change—sixty-degree days, forty-degree nights, and frost warnings in higher elevations. Will our crazy weather affect the autumn leaf colors? Looks like it in my woods. Dried up leaves don’t change color. Brown stays brown, folks. But I found an exception and snapped a picture before the wind blew them away. She who lives on a hill never needs a leaf blower.
A better proverb describing trees and color says, “How blessed is the man who finds wisdom and gains understanding. For her profit is better than silver, her gain better than fine gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire compares with her. Long life is in her right hand, in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant, and all her paths are peace. She is the tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who hold her fast. Proverbs 3:13-18.” No wonder autumn is my favorite time of year. The brilliant colors and falling leaves remind me of God’s blessings showered on those who trust him.
