Over the last few years I noticed a shift in many Christmas traditions. Exterior decorations now include electronic light shows and pulsating music. More people prefer artificial trees than the aromatic but messy real ones. And Santa Claus appears everywhere. Imagine my surprise the other day when I entered a big box hardware store and he invited me to pose for a picture with him in front of the gas grill section. In case you’re wondering, I declined. But one decades-old Christmas tradition remains in my area, and folks love it—a locally owned gas station chain sells eggnog. As a child I remember my mother making a batch of it every Christmas, and my father was the only family member who drank it. The rest of us tried it once and decided he could have it all. Too rich and eggy for our taste.
