Cherohala Skyway

If you like Fall, spend the next few weeks in the South. Cooler weather, clear skies, low humidity, and vibrant leaf colors bring joy to residents and visitors alike. This year tried everyone’s patience, so take a break and see the beauty around us. Where’s a great place to spend the day?

Drive the 41 miles of the Cherohala Skyway. Between Tellico Plains, Tennessee and Robbinsville, North Carolina, a road meanders around ridges and over 5,400 foot mountains to give you views rivaling those in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Without the crowds, minus bumper-to-bumper traffic. Along the skyway you’ll find scenic overlooks, brilliant leaf colors, and plenty of hiking trails and waterfalls. Just remember to top off your gas tank beforehand and take a picnic lunch, as nary a restaurant or gas station blocks your view, although limited restroom facilities are available.

If you’ve visited the skyway, what do you think about it?
